Realizing mental disassociations such as black and white thinking, always / never / should statements, disqualifying all positives and exaggerating the negatives, and making everything personal. It’s important to eat a piece of fruit or snack, take relaxation mental meditation box breathing, and focus on sounds / sights / objects / people / environment in reality until you can engage in a productive and distracting activity such as a walk or cleaning! And understanding that you can not change racing passing thoughts!
